The NLP Annotation Format has the following properties:

• NAF is a layered, extensible format.
• Information is added incrementally by individual tools.
• NAF uses URIs to refer to data elements, resources and linguistic properties.
• NAF is designed to include provenance information using (the W3C recommended ontology for provenance)
